Health Officials Say 10 New COVID-19 Cases In S. Michigan

(UNDATED) – Health officials say 10 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Southern Michigan as of Friday afternoon.

Four of the new cases were in St. Joseph County, according to the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency. There are now 143 people who have the coronavirus, and 3 people have died.

In Branch County, there are 3 new cases of COVID-19, which means 130 people have the virus, and 2 people who have died. Hillsdale County has no new cases. That makes 171 people who have tested positive and 24 people who have died.

The Michigan Department of Corrections says there were no new cases of coronavirus at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater. To date, 793 inmates and 34 staff members have the virus. There have been 23 inmate deaths at the facility.

Cass County is reporting 3 new cases of COVID-19, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. That makes 88 people who have the virus and 3 people who have died.

Statewide, 284 new coronavirus cases were detected, which makes 58,525 individuals who have the virus. There were 21 more deaths, meaning 5,616 Michigan residents have died from COVID-19.
