(MILLERSBURG) – Authorities have arrested a suspect on multiple charges, including rape.

Elkhart County Sheriff Jeff Siegel says his department was contacted by a 44 year old woman, who said at 2 PM on June 3 she was near her residence in the 66,000 block of State Road 13 in Millersburg. A man approached her with a handgun and forced her into his vehicle.

The man drove the woman to a business located north of Millersburg where he sexually assaulted her. The suspect then ordered the woman out of his vehicle, and she was able to call for help.

Siegel says investigators have been following leads and received information about a possible suspect. On Friday, deputies were able to locate the man and obtain a search warrant for his vehicle and home at 54122 County Road 43 in Middlebury.

The Elkhart County Regional SWAT Team was called in to assist in serving the search warrant and went to the residence at 4:35 PM Friday. The suspect, identified as 19 year old Jalen Yoder, was home and refused to come out. After a short time, negotiators were able to encourage Yoder to come and and he was taken into custody without incident.

Yoder was taken to the Elkhart County Correctional Facility on preliminary charges of rape and kidnapping. The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case.
