(LANSING) – Michigan's stay at home order has been extended once again.

Late Friday afternoon, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that she had signed the Executive Order extending the Safer At Home order until June 12. This Executive Order extends the temporary closure of certain businesses, which includes gyms, theaters and casinos.

In addition, Whitmer also extended her State of Emergency Declaration through June 19. She says these aggressive measures are working, but more still needs to be done. Whitmer says cases of COVID-19 in some counties in Western and Mid-Michigan are doubling every 10 days.

Whitmer says if Michigan opens too soon, thousands more could die and hospitals around the state would get overwhelmed. She says while the state finally has more protective equipment like masks, we can't run the risk of running low again.
