Good And Bad News In Whitmer's Address

(LANSING) – There was some uplifting news and some bad news during Governor Gretchen Whitmer's Monday media update regarding COVID-19.

Whitmer shared that Michigan has been running low on personal protection equipment. But Whitmer says the State has purchased some items and received others and will be getting them where they need to be. ...... {LISTEN}.

In addition, over one million N95 masks will be coming to the State and be given to Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties this week.

Ford and the United Auto Works have made and donated face shields to hospitals. The State has purchased one million more that will be manufactured and then sent where they are needed.

One of the bad news items was Whitmer saying the State has seen a large increase over the last two weeks in unemployment claims. ...... {LISTEN}.

While those numbers are staggering, Whitmer says they will continue to climb. She says there have been more unemployment claims in the last two weeks than in all of 2019.

Whitmer says she and her administration are doing everything possible to help those who are applying for unemployment and to get them those benefits as quickly as possible.
