Lakeland superintendent responds to extended closure
By: Tim Murray - Friday, March 20, 2020

LAGRANGE – With the governor extending the school closings across the state Lakeland Superintendent Dr. Eva Merkel responded with an email to parents late yesterday.

Merkel said it is important to make sure children are completing eLearning assignments up to this point. What gets completed will be important in determining credits for high school students and next steps for younger students.

Parents should make sure their voice mailbox can take messages and that someone in their family can get emails. They need to be able to communicate with everyone as the situation changes.

School officials will be using the five waiver days next week to contact families to get updated information where needed…set up students with their Lakeland emails...and outline general student needs for extended learning and determine specific needs regarding school credits, college credits and graduation qualifications.

And finally, Merkel encouraged students to keep working on activities shared by teachers...read items of interest...and learn some practical skills at home.

She expects more details to come later next week.
