LaGrange Co. Commissioners adopt zoning ordinance amendments
By: Tim Murray - Monday, March 16, 2020

LAGRANGE – The LaGrange County Commissioners finally took action on a pile of 17 amendments to the county zoning ordinance Monday morning.

Many of the updates simplify language in the ordinance. The one that was a sticking point adds additional regulations to calf feeding operations. Commissioner Dennis Kratz was opposed to that provision but fellow commissioners voted 2-1 to adopt it.

Kratz said he wanted to alleviate the problems of feedlot runoff by other means than requiring farms to meet the full animal feeding operation requirements.

The commissioners green-lighted a desire by the Northeast Indiana Solid Waste Management District to move the compost site from the fairgrounds to the convenience center at the former landfill on 300 South.

The District’s Steve Christman argued the current site suffers from chronic dumping of construction materials due to its being an unmanned site.
