Lagrange Sheriff closes office and other COVID cancellations

LAGRANGE – The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office and Jail closed to the public at noon Friday and will remain closed until further notice.

Sheriff Jeff Campos took the action as a precautionary measure only to combat exposure to the Coronavirus.

Included in the shutdown are all volunteer programs, inmate visitations, front office and lobby business, figerprinting. Services such as vehicle inspections, tax warrants, accident reports and background checks will be handled by appointment, phone calls, mail and email.

Northeast Indiana’s largest employer implemented changes as well. Parkview Health employs 13-thousand people across the system and has implemented guidelines for travel, remote work, exposure risk and other key areas. Parkview suspended volunteer services and some non-essential entrances are closed.

Visitor restrictions are in place at all Parkview hospitals. Only one adult visitor per patient, no visitors to ER except parents or guardians of minors, no visitors with respiratory or flu-like symptoms. Cafeteria services are limited to staff and persons visiting a patient.

Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis is limiting visitors unless absolutely necessary.

The Lagrange County Parks & Recreation Department has canceled Maple Syrup Days.

The Lima Presbyterian Church in Howe will not have workship on Sunday.

The Branch County Community Band spring concert April 3rd is canceled.

The IHSAA has changed gears and has now postponed the boys basketball tournament immediately. Regionals will not be played Saturday.

Saturday’s girls gymnastics state finals in Muncie will go on without spectators.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association has directed member schools to suspend sports activities effective Monday through at least April 5th. All practices, scrimmages competition, games, strength training and conditioning must cease.

Schools in Marion County and Fort Wayne Community Schools will close on Monday.

Trine University will shift all classes to online-only for two weeks beginning Monday, March 16. Students at Trine's Fort Wayne Center for Health Sciences who are in clinical rotations at clinics and hospitals will continue their rotation until advised otherwise by the rotation site.

Students on the main campus will have the option of remaining in residence facilities or checking out and going home for the two-week period. Meals will be available for those who remain on campus, and the student health center will remain open during its regular hours.
