CENTREVILLE – A St. Joseph County Circuit Court jury has found a man guilty for his part in the murder of another man in 2018.

Wednesday morning, the jury returned guilty verdicts on all counts against 41 year old Theron Hunt. He was found guilty of first degree felony murder, two charges of armed robbery, along with a charge of unlawful imprisonment, second degree criminal sexual conduct and felony firearms.

The jury began their deliberations Tuesday following closing statements by St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough and defense attorney T.J. Reed.

Hunt along with 24 year old Kayla Cheney and 20 year old Tyler McNeil were all arrested following an incident November 15, 2018. Kevin Johnson, a truck driver from Kentucky, was shot and killed at a residence on South Street in Flowerfield Township. The trio also faced charges for robbing Dainelle King on that same date.

Investigators say they were told that Johnson tried to steal a vehicle which led to his being shot. Authorities later discovered that Hunt, Cheney and McNeil were going to sell fake drugs to Johnson, but the plan went wrong and Johnson was shot by Cheney.

McDonough says he is grateful for all of the hard work law enforcement officers did leading up to the trial. He says they got the suspects, the evidence and the worst of the three has now been convicted.

Hunt will be sentenced on February 12.
