CONSTANTINE – The Constantine School Board has appointed an interim Superintendent.

During Monday's work session, the Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of John Jarpe to be their interim Superintendent. During a special meeting January 2, the Board interviewed Jarpe and Tom Stobey for the interim position.

School Board President Terry Burgess says he was confident in Jarpe's experience as a Superintendent and as an interim. He also said that Jarpe's references all said he was a strong individual.

Board member MaRinda Stamp says she was impressed with Jarpe's interview and he would be a good fit. She also says Constantine needs someone from the outside to the the interim Superintendent, plus having someone with Superintendent and interim Superintendent experience will be helpful to lead Constantine in their search for a full time Superintendent.

Jarpe is a native of Niles and during his career taught in the Detroit Public Schools, then at Niles Brandywine and St. Joseph. He served as the Brandywine Superintendent from 2007 until 2017 before retiring. He recently finished a stint as the interim Superintendent with the Watervliet Schools.

Burgess says he will speak with Jarpe and work out the details of his contract, including when he would be able to start and how much he would be paid.
