Gasoline generally cheaper across the Great Lakes but not here
By: Tim Murray - Monday, December 23, 2019

AURORA, IL – Something to be thankful for this Christmas: cheaper gasoline.

Triple-A says the price of gasoline on average in Indiana is about cents cheaper than at this time last year.

But when you drill down into the numbers by location, that’s not always the case. Especially here.

The South Bend area price of $2.45 on Monday is about ten cents a gallon cheaper than the Fort Wayne area. Compare that to last year when South Bend was at $2.14 and Fort Wayne at $2.27.

Decreasing gasoline demand and increasing stocks are driving the change in pump prices. The latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports show gasoline demand at its lowest rate since mid-February and the highest stock levels since this summer.

As the weather turns colder, people tend to drive less and AAA is seeing less gasoline demand. This causes gas prices to be less expensive. In the lead up to the holidays there may be a small spike in demand, but not enough to impact gas prices substantially.
