County catches break on diesel price for 2020
By: Tim Murray - Wednesday, December 11, 2019

LAGRANGE – LaGrange County government caught a break on the price of fuel for 2020.

The only bid the commissioners received for gasoline and diesel fuel on Wednesday came from Ceres Solutions.

Bruce Richmond of Ceres says the break came in the cost of diesel fuel.

"We've got a weird situation right now. It (also) happened in 2017. Futures prices are actually lower than cash or spot prices. It's actually cheaper to contract than it is to buy it on the spot market right now. Diesel was $2.63 (gal.) last year and its $2.33 now, so thirty cents a gallon (less)."

Gasoline price of $2.03 a gallon was about the same as this year.

The commissioners awarded the fuel contract to Ceres unanimously.
