Concord bus involved in crash Monday morning

ELKHART – A Concord Community School bus was involved in a crash while taking students to school Monday morning.

Elkhart County police say the bus was heading west on County Road 20 when a Ford Expedition failed to stop for a stop sign on County Road 107 and was struck by the bus.

The impact pushed the Expedition into a utility pole.

The bus driver – 62-year-old Jackie Ball of Elkhart suffered chest pain. An aide on the bus – 72-year-old Helene Caviender of Elkhart suffered back pain. They were both taken to Elkhart General Hospital along with the three students on the bus. The students were taken for evaluation only.

Also taken to the hospital were two passengers from Elkhart in the Expedition – 46-year-old Delmi DeNieto suffered a cut to the head...and 46-year-old Gloria Hernandez with back and chest pain.

Police cited the driver of the Expedition – 43-year-old Israel Lozada of Elkhart with failure to stop for the stop sign and operating a vehicle with fictitious registration.
