PIERCETON – The only thing that stopped a pair of teen girls fleeing from police in a stolen car was an empty gas tank.

The red Chevy Impala was stolen from Pierceton Monday and Pierceton Police spotted it sitting in the parking lot of the Presbyterian Church.

As they approached the vehicle it sped away, heading north of State Road 13. It eventually turned east in North Webster and continued into Noble County before the vehicle ran out of gas east of State Road 5.

The occupants of the vehicle were both age 15.

The driver was detained while the passenger was released to parents.

Charges in the case are pending.
