UNDATED – WalletHub is out with its ranking of America’s best small cities.

They compared more than 12-hundred cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 on 42 key indicators of livability – things like housing costs and school district quality.

In Indiana, you need look no farther than Hamilton County, north of Indianapolis. That’s because Indiana’s top four cities in the list are all there...with Carmel ranked fifth in the nation. Fishers, Westfield, and Noblesville all rank in the top 7 percent in the nation.

The top-ranked small city in Michigan was Troy, which rated in the top 3 percent nationwide. Royal Oak was next in the top 6 percent, followed by Rochester Hills, Holland, and Novi all in the top nine percent or higher.

Indiana’s lowest ranked small city was Gary in the bottom 3 percent, while Michigan’s lowest ranking was Jackson, ranked in the bottom 6 percent.
