STURGIS – Sturgis Public Schools has received a clean audit report.

During Monday's Sturgis Board of Education meeting, Matthew Kelly of Plante Moran shared the financial audit for 2018-19. He says the school district received a clean, or unmodified opinion, which is the highest level of opinion that can be issued.

Kelly says the General Fund showed budgeted revenues were at $33.6 million while actual revenues were $33.5 million. Expenditures came in at $32.3 million and were budgeted at $33.1 million.

There was also a net change in fund balance according to Kelly, with an improvement of $750,000. That brings the fund balance to $5.8 million. That puts the fund balance at 18.45 percent of actual expenditures. That compares to the state average of 13.96 percent for the year ending June 30, 2018.
