School bus stop arm blitz this afternoon
By: Tim Murray - Wednesday, October 16, 2019

LAGRANGE – It’s disappointing to report, but since we reported on school bus stop arm violations last May the situation appears to have gotten worse.

Westview School Corporation Transportation Director Brian Bills told the school board last week that there appears to be more violations this school year. That’s something that LaGrange County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tracy Harker agrees with.

Both men wonder if the cause is distracted driving due to electronic devices like cell phones.

The LaGrange County Prosecutors Office and local police will conduct another stop arm violation blitz this afternoon in all three Lagrange County school districts.

Officers will be riding and following buses to better spot and stop violators.

Buses that have stop arm cameras have helped identify violators but still motorists aren’t paying attention.
