NAPPANEE – A Nappanee teen was injured when a car struck her bicycle and then fled the scene this morning.

It happened around 4:36 a-m on County Road 7 a half-mile north of Nappanee.

17-year-old Kaitlin Troyer was flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend suffering pain throughout her body after a car struck her bicycle from behind.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a maroon colored Chevy Impala. It’s presumed to have front end damage.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says Gerardo Fuentes Cortez, 49, of Goshen was taken into custody this afternoon in connection to the hit and run crash this morning. He is charged with Leaving the Scene of a Serious Bodily Injury Crash.
