SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP – The fugitive wanted in three area counties and who allegedly tried to run over a Steuben County deputy early Friday morning surrendered to police this morning.

21-year-old Vincent Chilcote called LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department wanting to turn himself in. He required medical attention for an injury apparently sustained early Friday morning in a pursuit.

Officers from Lagrange, Steuben and Indiana State Police along with Lagrange and Angola Police converged on a residence in the Prairie Heights area along U-S 20 just before 8 a-m and Chilcote was taken into custody without incident.

Police thought they had Chilcote early Friday morning at the public landing on West Otter Lake. But he fled in a truck, nearly running down a Steuben County deputy in the process. That deputy fired shots at the vehicle, which later drove into a bean field where Chilcote fled on foot.

Prairie Heights Schools were locked down on Friday because police thought Chilcote was still in the area.

He was wanted on numerous warrants in LaGrange, Noble and Steuben Counties.
