Armed robbery at Angola Shell leads to pursuit

ANGOLA -- The Shell Station in Angola was robbed at gun point around 1:15 Wednesday morning.

An Angola Police Officer was close by and pursued a black passenger vehicle which was occupied by two men.

The pursuit went into the Fremont area, and then back on to the interstate South bound where Ashley Police deployed stop sticks and flattened two of the vehicle tires.

It stopped in a ditch just South of the Ashley exit on I-69 where Steuben County Deputies apprehended one of the suspects a short time later.

Cash and cigarettes believed to have been stolen from the gas station were found in the vehicle.

A 16 year-old male juvenile who was wanted out of Allen County for escape was also apprehended. Charges pending against the juvenile will be armed robbery, as well as resisting arrest by fleeing on foot.

The vehicle was later found to have been stolen out of Fort Wayne.

The driver, 27 year-old Jared Dean Starkey was apprehended at around 6:20 A.M. at the 338.5 mile marker along I-69.
