Seven area farming families receive Homestead Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – Seven area farming families received Hoosier Homestead Awards yesterday at the Indiana State Fair.

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch presented the awards to a total of 96 farming families.

They included the Weaver family in LaGrange County with a sesquicentennial award; the Lutes and Umbaugh families of Elkhart County with centennial awards; Wilkinson, Riddle and Shultz families of Noble County with centennial awards – and the Riddle farm also a sesquicentennial award; and the Pfaffman family of Steuben County with a centennial award.

To be named a Hoosier Homestead, the farm had to be kept in the family for at least 100 consecutive years, and consist of more than 20 acres or produce more than $1,000 in agricultural products per year.
