Prison escapee from Waterloo recaptured this morning

MICHIGAN CITY – A Waterloo man who walked away from state prison in Michigan City yesterday afternoon was captured just after midnight Thursday.

39-year-old Travis Hornett forced his way into a Beverly Shores home to evade capture. The Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit along with state police and local law enforcement surrounded the house and Hornett surrendered without incident.

He’s expected to face to new felony counts of escape and residential entry.

Hornett walked away from a low security area of the prison where he was supposed to be working.
