(MENDON) – The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office is investigating three break ins that happened in the Village of Mendon.

Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says on Sunday at 9 PM, deputies were called to a break in at a house in the 200 block of Fletcher Street. The homeowner told deputies they returned after being gone several hours to find signs someone was inside the house while they were away.

On Monday at 2 AM, deputies responded to a call of someone trying to enter a home in the 200 block of East Main Street. The subject was scared off by the homeowner. The area was searched, but no one was located.

Then at 3:30 AM Monday, deputies were called to a residence in the 100 block of East Main Street after the homeowner located a subject inside their home. The suspect, described as a white man, 5 feet 8 inches tall, between 40 and 50 years old and having a tattoo on his upper arm, fled the residence heading south. A K-9 officer was called to the scene but was not able to locate the man.

Bingaman says his office is asking residents of the areas were the suspect was seen to check their security cameras if they have any, for footage of the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call Deputy Miller at 269-467-9045, extension 330.
